Chris Sutton and Paul Merson predict a 2-0 win for Chelsea when the west London club hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers later today.
The Blues no doubt look favourite on paper, with Graham Potter’s side coming into the game having won both their games in all competitions. Meanwhile, the Wolves have struggled.
Wolves sacked their manager Bruno Lage last week and will head to the game with an interim coach. If this was not enough, the west Midlands club have lost both their previous games, with the most recent being a 2-0 defeat to West Ham.
Now both Sutton and Merson have predicted a win in favour of the west London club. In the prediction published in Birmingham Mail, former Norwich City and Celtic striker Sutton had the following to say:
“It was a bit harsh for Wolves to sack Bruno Lage so early in the season. They had issues scoring goals, of course, but it is not his fault that their strikers got injured. They are managerless at the moment and I can’t see them winning here, either. Chelsea are finding their feet under Graham Potter and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has started scoring, so they should take the points pretty comfortably.”
Merson, a former Arsenal forward also agreed on Lage’s sacking and gave his view on the game:
“Wolves have sacked Bruno Lage and if I’m being honest, I can’t believe they let someone like Conor Coady leave. He was the heart and soul of the team and marshalled their backline expertly since they gained promotion to the Premier League, so it just feels like a strange one.”
Both the former players and now pundits have predicted a 2-0 win in favour of the home side. We also are inclined to agree with the prediction. The Blues have been in good form and a win is more than likely for the home side.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James have been our best players so far and both are likely to start the game. Wesley Fofana could miss the game after picking up a knee injury in our 3-0 win against AC Milan earlier this week. Trevoh Chalobah is expected to deputise for the former Leicester City man.
However, the team can only be known when Potter releases the teamsheet, which is usually one hour before kick-off. A clean sheet and a win against Wolves would be ideal but Kalidou Koulibaly – if he does play – will have to be at his best if former Blues striker Diego Costa takes to the field against us at the Bridge.
