Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic urged to join Newcastle United by former United States international

Speaking to Vegas Insider, as quoted by Newcastle World (h/t Football.London), former USA international Eric Wynalda has urged Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic to join Newcastle United ahead of Leeds United.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer after he fell out with former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel.

However, since the change in personnel in the managerial post, the former Borussia Dortmund man was determined to prove his worth and excited for a fresh start at Chelsea.

But, if he ends up making a move in January, Wynalda tells Pulisic to join Newcastle. Here’s what he said (h/t Football.London):

“I think if he ends up making a move in January, after the World Cup, I am starting to lean more and more towards the direction of Newcastle.

“Things that I am hearing about the money they are going to splash is interesting. I don’t think Leeds, for example, would be a good spot for him.

“That’s not a team that is going to score a ton of goals. He’s going to be on the end of a lot of quality if he stays at Chelsea, he’s just not going to get the minutes that would equate to big numbers.”

The quote also contains the reality of Pulisic not getting enough game time at Chelsea. He started the league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers and did well while scoring a goal. But in the following game against AC Milan, he was an unused substitute.

Will Graham Potter give regular game time to Pulisic?

It remains to be seen whether the versatile forward will get enough game time before the World Cup for him to stay in West London. Otherwise, a move away would make sense for him.

In terms of choosing between Newcastle and Leeds, the former is a better prospect with the Saudi takeover ensuring that the club will be in good hands financially, which in modern-day football means progress for the team in the right direction. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Toon challenging for the title in five years’ time.

It is up to Pulisic now to decide whether he wants to continue fighting for his place at Chelsea or go to a club like Newcastle where he would be one of the first names on the team sheets and also be a part of the club that is constantly on the rise.

More Chelsea News:

For this to happen, however, there has to be genuine interest from the concerned and Chelsea would have to be open to a sale as well. It’s clear Graham Potter doesn’t see him as a regular starter, having started him in just one of five possible matches under him.
