Chelsea centre-back Wesley Fofana has vowed to come ‘back stronger’ after he was forced to leave the pitch in the first half due to an injury in his side’s 3-0 win against AC Milan.
The former Leicester City man gave his side the lead after he slotted the ball home from a corner mishap by the Milan players in the box. It was his first goal for the club after making a move this summer for £70 million.
However, his night was cut short as he limped off the pitch in the 38th minute. And now the 21-year-old has vowed to come back stronger after uploading a picture of himself on Instagram celebrating his goal with the caption: (h/t Express)
From laughter to tears
I’ll be back stronger 🔜
Be sure
It appeared that the defender had picked up a potentially serious knee injury. The initial signs do not look very good as the France Under-21 star was spotted hobbling on crutches after the game, assisted by a member of the Chelsea staff.
Fofana is no stranger to injuries. The Frenchman was out for most of the last season after he had broken his leg during the pre-season. He returned at the start of this year, but now again could likely miss several important games for the club.
Graham Potter will be concerned for the centre-back. But on the bright side, the Blues have enough reinforcements to replace the 21-year-old at the back.
Trevoh Chalobah replaced Fofana on the pitch and could now likely play a lot more games. Marc Cucurella can also play on the left side of the back three while Cesar Azpilicueta is also available as an option.
The centre-back will go through a test later on and we will then know the seriousness of his injury then. Fans will hope that it is not something very serious or the team could miss his absence in the long run.
