Transfer News: Managerial change ‘might have changed’ Chelsea’s stance on signing Manchester United superstar

Chelsea could make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo either in January or next summer

Chelsea could make a move for Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo following a change in their management. This is according to ESPN (h/t Express).

The Blues were interested in bringing the 37-year-old to west London this summer. But, then-manager Thomas Tuchel was against the idea and it is believed that co-owner Todd Boehly and Tuchel clashed over this transfer.

However, the German was sacked in early September and was replaced by Graham Potter. There is now ‘acceptance’ that the new manager would be open to having the five-time Ballon D’or winner in his squad.

Ronaldo himself was willing to leave the Manchester-based club in the summer due to their failure of qualifying for the Champions League. Despite many rumours about a move, nothing happened and the player had to stay put.

While his return to the club last season was a success for him at a personal level, this season has not gone according to plan. The forward has found himself a place on the bench and has only started one league game so far this season.

In the Europa League, he is a regular, but his goal-scoring abilities seem to now have caught up to his age. The goal machine has struggled to find the back of the net and has only scored one goal so far in nine appearances for the club in all competitions.

Making a move for such an out-of-form player would not be wise on Chelsea’s part. While the marketing team will be delighted to have him, he would not make a wise player to have on the squad. Plus his age is another factor and he will most likely be a very short-term solution.

More Chelsea News:

The Blues brought in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day. The striker has established himself in the team and has scored two goals in five appearances in all competitions. It would be wise for the club to target a young striker rather than Ronaldo.
