Arsene Wenger offers advice to Chelsea manager Graham Potter

Speaking in an interview with beIN SPORTS as quoted by Football. London, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has offered advice to Graham Potter reminding him that the first three months are crucial for him to make a good impression at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel and replaced him with former Brighton boss Graham Potter. The Englishman has been rewarded for how well he managed the Seagulls and it felt like it was only a matter of time before one of the big Premier League clubs came calling, with all due respect to Brighton.

The Blues decided to take the punt with Potter and name him the manager of Chelsea and it is the first time that the English coach actually has such a huge job on his hands. He has passed all his previous tests with flying colours and it remains to be seen how it goes at the Bridge.

Potter had a slight scare against Crystal Palace in his first game in charge in the Premier League but the Blues managed to win the game 2-1 thanks to a late screamer from Conor Gallagher. A lot could not be made out of that display and it will take more time to understand what Potter is going to implement.

The former Brighton boss deployed a 4-2-2-2 against Patrick Viera’s Palace. It was a new system for the Blues who tended to play a back three under former boss Thomas Tuchel and we need to wait and see how Potter transforms this talented team.

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal icon told Potter that the impression he makes in the first three months matters a lot and that the Englishman must be at his best.

“The first three months are most decisive to creating a culture of performance and improvement, every game at the start gives you power and strength to convince people. That’s why games coming up in the next two months are important to him.”

For a manager who has coached Arsenal for as long as he did, Arsene Wenger will know what he is talking about but a good start doesn’t really mean that the story will go perfectly, just ask Thomas Tuchel that. He had an excellent start as a Blues manager but it all went downhill.

To be fair though, there have been cases where a manager who doesn’t start well really grows into the role as well. We do not need to look beyond what Mikel Arteta has done at Arsenal. The Gunners backed him to the hilt and are now finally seeing the rewards for their persistence.

More Chelsea News:

A huge season awaits the Blues, and they must be willing to back Graham Potter. It is not wise to rush into decisions, and the Englishman must be given a fair chance of proving how good he can be as the manager of Chelsea.
