“There will be competition”- Armando Broja all smiles after scoring his first Chelsea goal in 3-0 win

Armando Broja happy after scoring his first goal for Chelsea and embraces competition for places

Speaking to BBC after his team’s 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers (h/t Football.London), Chelsea striker Armando Broja was happy about scoring his first senior goal for the club and embraced the fact that there will be competition for places at such a big club.

The 21-year-old scored the third goal of three in the 90th minute to wrap up a comprehensive win for the Blues. In league terms, this is their third consecutive win since the defeat to Southampton in late August.

While talking to the media, Broja was understandably very happy about opening his account for Chelsea but also mentioned his acceptance that there is competition for places in this team, meaning he won’t get as much game time here.

Here’s what the young striker exactly said (h/t Football.London):

“It’s always a wait when they check for a possible offside. I was keeping my fingers crossed but I thought I had timed my run well.

Thanks to the fans for the support. It’s unreal, I’ve been waiting for my first goal. It’s a surreal moment. I can’t put it into words. Onto Tuesday now. It was a good performance.

Everyone knows at one of the biggest clubs in the world there will be competition. It helps us all develop as players. We have a big squad, everyone is needed at all times.”

The Chelsea academy product, who joined the club when he was eight years old, recently signed a new six-year deal with the club. It shows that the club’s hierarchy believes in him and backs him to become one of the first-choice players in the team sooner rather than later.

He was on loan at Southampton last season and did extremely well. If anyone has doubts about the Albanian’s talents and quality, they can watch some of the games he played last season. His first Chelsea goal was a sublime finish too. More of that can be expected from him in the future.

Currently, Chelsea have two out-and-out centre-forward options. One is Broja and the other is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Kai Havertz has and can play as a nine too. With a plethora of games to come and every player in the squad needing to chip in, one can hope that the 21-year-old will get more game time this season to prove his worth.

That goal would have probably settled his nerves and made him comfortable in a blue jersey. Sometimes, as a striker, you just need the first one to go in and the rest can follow pretty quickly.
