Chelsea are set to rival Manchester United and Liverpool for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham next summer, according to a report in The Sun.
The English midfielder has become one of the hottest prospects in European football since his move to Germany for £20 million from Birmingham City in 2020.
And it is not surprising that the Blues have their eyes on the 19-year-old. Having reinforced the attack and defence this summer, it seems midfield will have new faces next summer.
Bellingham could have left this summer, but with Erling Haaland moving to Manchester City, the German club were insistent that the English midfielder will not be sold this window.
N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are in the final year of their current contract. With both their futures uncertain, long-term replacements are needed and Bellingham could help with that.
The Blues have brought in Carney Chukwuemeka this summer from Aston Villa. With Conor Gallagher also fighting for a place in the squad, adding the 19-year-old English midfielder could help solve the midfield issues for Chelsea for many years to come.
Chelsea have also appointed Graham Potter as their new manager. The 47-year-old is known to play fluid and attacking football, along with developing youngsters. Bellingham is as good as a youngster can be and Potter could help him unlock his true potential.
But the young English midfielder will not come cheap. A move for the player is likely to cost upwards of £100 million. With the 19-year-old likely to start games for England in the World Cup in November, his stock could skyrocket further after the tournament ends.
He is truly a player that can be a constant fixture in any top team’s midfield for the next decade or so. If the Blues could deal with the financial aspect of any potential deal, there aren’t many better young central midfielders than Bellingham right now.
