Chelsea are said to be interested in Villarreal winger Alex Baena, according to a report in Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Express). Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are also believed to hold an interest in the 21-year-old.
The report further adds that the winger could be up for grabs for a bargain deal given his release clause fee of £30 million. He has been the top scorer for the Yellow Submarines in all competitions this season.
Baena has found the back of the net six times this season in all competitions. Given the form he is in, it is hardly surprising to see the top Premier League clubs interested in him.
The Blues were one of the heaviest spenders this summer and added two forwards in their senior squad. Raheem Sterling was signed from Manchester City while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived from Barcelona on the deadline day.
However, the west London club has still been lacking the finishing touch, something that cost them precious points last season too. Despite having top-quality talents in their squad, it looks like they could do with some new additions up front.
Baena is a fantastic choice to add to the team. Just 21, the winger has already amassed huge playing experience under his belt. The winger has improved drastically this season as compared to the last and he will only get better as each day passes.
He spent the last season on loan at Girona and played a crucial part in helping the Catalonia side gain promotion to the La Liga through the playoffs. The 21-year-old played 45 times for them in all competitions, scoring five goals and assisting another seven in the process.
But he will not come easy. The Spanish side are seeking to raise his current release clause value to deter potential suitors. The player is under contract till 2025 and it remains to be seen if any of the clubs make a move for him this January or next summer.
