Tammy Abraham admits it was difficult to leave Chelsea after AS Roma transfer

Speaking to Daily Mail (h/t Football London), England International and AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham has admitted that it was tough for him to leave Chelsea and move pastures abroad to Italy.

Tammy is a product of the famed Cobham academy and was with Chelsea since age seven. Hence, the player’s viewpoint is understandable considering he had seen nothing else but the blue jersey before making his first career move to AS Roma.

Speaking about his exit, he said:

“Leaving Chelsea was difficult, it’s where I’d grown up from the age of seven. I didn’t know much about Italian football but it has helped me develop as a player and as a man. I’ve come out of my comfort zone and don’t have any regrets.”

With 30 goals and 12 assists in 82 appearances, many expected Tammy to lead the line for Chelsea in the coming years. However, after a decent start to his senior career, he fell out of favour under Thomas Tuchel who preferred the likes of Kai Hacertz and Timo Werner over the Englishman.

The player made a tough decision to leave his boyhood club and join Jose Mourinho’s Roma and the move turned out to be a masterclass with the striker scoring an impressive 27 goals and five assists in all competitions.

Falling out of favour at Chelsea turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Tammy who rejuvenated his career in Italy and is now a serious contender to be part of the 26-man England squad for the World Cup in November.

Mourinho has a plethora of examples of developing his attackers into world-class lethal forwards and in all honesty, there is no better man to develop Tammy than Mourinho and the fact is acknowledged by the player.

“He (Mourinho) is one of the best for man-management. He knows how to speak to players, the best way to deal with each one.”

It is rather stark to think about how forwards who have not been even close to their best since the past couple of seasons have necessitated the need in the club for a new forward which resulted in them acting in panic mode to conclude deals such as signing a 33-year-old striker in Aubameyang, who fell out of favour at FC Barcelona before.

With Tammy, we had a young striker who understood the importance of the badge and would have given his all each time he steps onto the field with his goalscoring exploits in Serie A for all to witness.

More Chelsea News:

Tammy always gave his all whenever he played for us and that is why the Blues supporters have a soft stance on the young striker and wish him the best to have a successful career ahead and hopefully over the coming years, make up his mind to potentially return to Stamford Bridge as a much more matured and learned player.
