Graham Potter outlines the definition of success for Chelsea this season

Speaking in his first press conference as the new Chelsea manager ahead of the RB Salzburg game (h/t Football.London), Graham Potter shares what all constitutes success for the Blues this season.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion boss, who was appointed to take charge of the west London club last Thursday, says that he is not looking too far ahead and focusing on the upcoming game against Salzburg in the Champions League.

The Englishman also shared that his team needs to compete while respecting the Premier League, the Champions League and other competitions. He also talked about creating a connection with the supporters.

New Chelsea manager Graham Potter stressed about competing and respecting every competition.

Here’s what Potter said regarding this topic in the press conference (h/t Football.London):

Well, all my thoughts are on tomorrow night so that’s the first thing! We need to compete here, that’s how it is. We have to compete and as I said earlier I have respect for the Premier League for the Champions League for the competitions we are in but we’re Chelsea. There are no guarantees.

Resources alone aren’t enough as we know. It’s about connecting with our supporters, about them recognising their team and what we’re trying to do, working every day at Cobham, getting that understanding of how we want to play football but success is to see improvement and be competing to win.

With the weekend games postponed due to the death of the Queen, Potter would have been happy to have a free weekend to work with the players and understand them before imparting his tactical imprint.

Having signed a five-year contract with Chelsea and getting time as a promise from the owners, the onus is on the manager to not just build for success now, but for the future as well.

Despite the fact that the Blues made a slow start to the season under Tuchel, it is still early. There is a lot of football to be played before we reach the point where every game becomes decisive.

However, Champions League group games will fly away very soon. So, the team needs to get back to winning ways to stay in touch in the league and qualify for the next stage in Europe’s elite competition.

More Chelsea News:

The Salzburg game at Stamford Bridge is a perfect opportunity for the new era to start in the right manner with the home fans looking on. A win in his opening game in charge would boost Potter’s confidence too, not that he would need much of that so early into his reign.
