“He was saying”- Chelsea loanee reveals Mason Mount advice before summer loan move

Club News: Mason Mount passed on advice to Harvey Vale before he left for loan

Chelsea Under-21 player Harvey Vale has said that Mason Mount passed on advice to him before he left the club on loan. The 18-year-old joined Championship side Hull City on a season-long loan.

Vale joined Hull on the deadline day along with teammate Xavier Simons. Before leaving, the England Under-19 midfielder signed a new deal with the Blues, extending his current contract till 2025.

The 18-year-old wanted some advice before deciding to leave on loan and Mount was one of the senior players who advised him. In an interview published in the Hull Daily Mail, the 18-year-old shared his conversation with Mount.

During pre-season, I was thinking about going on loan, I spoke to a few of the boys who have done it. For example, Mason, I was speaking to him about it. He was saying that it’s tough at first, but it’s part of growing up. Everyone has to do it, so just make sure I keep in contact with family regularly.

Mount is no stranger to a big loan move to the Championship. The 23-year-old himself spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Derby County, which was then managed by former Chelsea coach Frank Lampard.

The midfielder played a pivotal role in guiding Derby to the play-offs finals, but were ultimately beaten by Aston Villa at Wembley. So Vale went to the right person for advice, because since his loan season Mount has established himself as a regular for both club and country.

Vale is one the most up and coming attacking midfielders in the youth setup. The Academy Player of the Year was the captain of the England Under-19 side that won the European Under-19 Championship in July this year. An attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, he has a bright future ahead of him.

It is good to see young players like Mount stepping up and guiding youngsters. He was himself in place of Vale once and has since gone and achieved so much. One will hope that Vale too follows the same path and establishes himself in the team for both club and country.

A loan experience will help the 18-year-old mature and get more playing time under his belt. Given the talent that he has, it won’t be long before he starts playing for Chelsea’s senior team.
