Wolverhampton Wanderers have made an offer to sign Chelsea star Michy Batshuayi

According to 90min (h/t Birmingham Mail), Wolverhampton Wanderers have made an offer to sign out of favour Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi to address their issues upfront.

The West Midlands-based club registered an interest in the Belgian international earlier in this window as well. Bruno Lage is looking to sign a striker that can deputise for the currently injured Raul Jimenez and give support to Hwang Hee Chan.

Chelsea signed Batshuayi in the summer of 2016 from French side Marseille for a fee around £33m. Since then, he has not been able to break into the first XI under different managers at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old has been out on loan to five different clubs in the last six years, the most successful one being his latest stint with the Turkish side Besiktas. He scored 14 goals and assisted five in 33 league games for them last season as they finished sixth in the Turkish Super Lig.

Although not really favoured at Chelsea, Batshuayi is an experienced international with 45 caps for Belgium and 18 Champions League appearances with three different clubs, one of them being the Blues. In the right system, the Belgian could resurrect his career.

So, while Chelsea may no longer want him, it could be a great move for Wolves. At 28, the striker will still have some years in his legs to perform and score goals for the team. He also seems to be a good character around the dressing room, which is always a bonus.

Michy Batshuayi has failed to establish himself at Chelsea

From the Blues’ viewpoint, it is better to cash in on the player rather than sending him on loan every now and then. It’s been six years since they signed him and so far we have seen little to suggest he will succeed at the Bridge.

More Chelsea News:

Hence, enough time and water has passed under the bridge for this player-club relationship to work on the field. For Batshuayi, this move should make sense to him. He would get game time at Wolves and could eventually strike a good partnership with Jimenez upfront.
