Transfer News: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang prefers Chelsea over Manchester United

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (via Metro), Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants to play Champions League football and would prefer making the move to Chelsea rather than Manchester United due to this factor.

Aubameyang has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish giants this summer. The Gabonese striker joined Barcelona only six months ago from Arsenal on deadline day in the winter transfer window last season and already looks set to leave.

The 33-year-old has been one of Barcelona’s best players during his time in Spain and almost single handedly led the Spanish giants to a second-place finish last season. The presence of Robert Lewandowski though means the former Arsenal man will get less game time than before.

An Arsenal legend in his own right, Aubameyang tended to be the Gunner’s most important player for most of the seasons he spent there. Although things turned sour towards the end, the Gabonese striker did have a good time overall.

Chelsea are interested in signing the 33-year-old but it remains to be seen how the Blues react to the club signing a player who is closely associated with our London rivals. Regardless, it will not be a bad signing at any stretch and the Blues will get a quality striker.

To be fair to Auba, he has had one hell of a career revival in Spain. He has been one of the best strikers in La Liga during his time at the club and there is no doubt that he still has what it takes to succeed at a top club for at least one more season.

Will Chelsea fans be happy about a move for a former Arsenal man

Chelsea must know the limitations that accompany this deal though. There is no doubt that the Gabonese will be a key player for the club this season but he is still just a short-term fix. Chelsea will have to think about the future but for now, Auba is an option.

A huge season awaits Chelsea. They seem to have a well-settled squad now and the only position that is really lacking is the presence of a natural striker. Although Armando Broja is present, a more experienced option might be the need of the hour for Chelsea.

Auba prefers a move to Chelsea. However, there is a chance that Barcelona choose to keep him and it remains to be seen who Chelsea turns to in that situation.
