Transfer News: Erik ten Hag wants to reunite with Chelsea star at Man United

Transfer News: Manchester United are interested in Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech

Manchester United are said to be interested in Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech this summer. This is according to French journalist Nabil Djellit via Twitter (h/t Express).

New United coach Erik ten Hag is interested in reuniting with the Moroccan who joined Chelsea in 2020. The 29-year-old enjoyed a very good first season at Stamford Bridge.

But then he saw a dip in form, which led to him falling down the pecking order. Ziyech played 23 league games last season, but started in only 14. This shows that he has lost the trust of Thomas Tuchel and his future now looks uncertain.

The player has been linked with a move to AC Milan this summer but the talks are now looking to have stalled. Ziyech was part of the famous Ajax squad that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2018/19 season with ten Hag at the helm.

United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona is a continuing saga, but with the new season starting this weekend they seem to have turned their attention to a rival club. Ziyech has failed to earn regular playing time under Tuchel and is keen on seeking fresher pastures.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea would want to strengthen a direct rival in Man United by selling Ziyech. United’s board is divided in opinion about the player. Without the unanimous support of the board, it seems unlikely that United will begin negotiations for the player.

The player could be tempted to have a reunion with his former boss. But he would have to sacrifice Champions League football for next season if he forces a move to Manchester. Tuchel will be wise to keep the player. He may not be a regular starter, but he helps in adding depth to the squad.

His left foot is still magical and maybe a few words of motivation from Tuchel could help him regain his form. Should the club want the player to leave, they would be smart to send him elsewhere and not to a rival club.
