Chelsea set asking price for defensive duo on Barcelona’s radar

Transfer News: Chelsea have set an asking price for Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso

The Chelsea defensive duo of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso could be on their way out of the club this summer. According to the Spanish outlet Sport (h/t football.london), the Blues have set an asking price of £18 million for the duo.

Both the players have been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer. And now Chelsea have quoted what Barcelona need to fork out to get their men.

Azpilicueta and Alonso were named in the pre-season squad by Thomas Tuchel and even got playing time in the three friendlies that the Blues played in the United States. Whether those are the final matches they will play in Blue remains to be seen.

32-year-old Azpilicueta joined the Blues from the French side Marseille in 2012. The Spaniard has gone on to win all the trophies available to him in England and Europe. The club captain is one of the most influential figures in the squad and has played pivotal roles throughout his time at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso, a Real Madrid youth graduate joined the west London side in 2016 from Fiorentina. An instant hit, the 31-year-old has gone on to establish himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League. He fell down the pecking order after the arrival of Ben Chilwell but secured gametime thanks to the Englishman’s injury.

Barcelona and Chelsea have been against each other since the start of the summer window. The Spanish club swooped in at the last minute and stole both Raphinha and Jules Kounde from the Blues’ grasp. This has led to the club management and fans being angry at the Spanish giants.

Andreas Christensen joined Barcelona on a free transfer this summer.

Some might even question why Chelsea would do business with Barcelona this summer. But given that the Blues have set an asking price, they might be open to allowing the players to leave. Should they leave for Spain, they will join their former team-mate Andreas Christensen who joined the Catalan club for free earlier this summer.
