According to the BBC (h/t Metro), Chelsea are set to block any move for Christian Pulisic that will see him join Manchester United this summer.
The 23-year-old winger is keen on a move to play regular football before the World Cup in November. United are desperate to sign players this summer and have shown interest in taking the American winger on a loan this summer.
But it seems Chelsea have no interest in helping their rivals strengthen themselves. The Blues are open to allowing Pulisic to leave this summer, but not to a direct rival.
Pulisic joined Chelsea in the summer of 2019. The player was a regular before a drop in form saw him lose his place in the team. A Champions League winner with the Blues, he could leave the club after a three-year stint.
The 23-year-old is capable of playing on any side of the wings. He has struggled for minutes in the past few seasons. The American managed to start only 13 of the 22 league appearances he made last season. His form in front of goal has not been good either, with him scoring just six goals in the league last season.
Tuchel has bought in Raheem Sterling this summer. His arrival has pushed the 23-year-old further down the pecking order. It is understandable why he wants to leave, but not at the cost of helping a rival. He is not the only Chelsea player of interest to United, with Hakim Ziyech also said to be on their radar.
It is a wise decision on Tuchel’s part to not allow Pulisic to join United. Despite their poor start to the season, they still pose a threat to the Blues and in their hopes of a top-four finish again this year. Although, Chelsea fans will hope that their side can also challenge for the title this season.
Newcastle United are also interested in the American winger. The Magpies could be an ideal destination for him. They do not pose any such immediate threat to the Blues, while Pulisic will likely get his desired playing time there. It will be interesting to see where the player plays this season.
