Transfer News: Chelsea are interested in signing Casemiro this summer

Chelsea are not done yet in the market for this summer. After having gotten off to a slow start in buying players, Thomas Tuchel has gone on a spending spree and is looking to spend more before the deadline.

According to 90min (h/t football.london), the Blues are interested in bringing Casemiro to Stamford Bridge this summer. This will come as very good news to Chelsea fans, while also landing a direct blow to Manchester United.

The Red Devils are also linked with a move for the 30-year-old defensive midfielder. But the Blues are said to be long-term admirers of the Brazilian and would be interested in hijacking United’s interest.

Chelsea and Manchester United are both interested in Casemiro.

Chelsea has been looking for potential targets who could deputise for Jorginho and N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park. Both have entered into the final year of their contracts with no sign of any extension yet. While Casemiro is roughly the same age, he is far from a liability when it comes to injuries.

The west London side were interested in Aurelien Tchouameni, but the player decided to join Real Madrid instead. The arrival of Tchouameni has made Casemiro nervous with the Brazilian wanting reassurance with a new deal, even though his current contract does not expire in three years.

Now United and Chelsea both need to reinforce their midfield and have identified the five-time Champions League winner as a potential target. Casemiro is no doubt one of the best holding midfielders in the world.

He is part of the famous Madrid midfield trio and has won everything there is to win at the Spanish club. The Brazilian would make an excellent signing for the Blues, given his strength and command in the middle of the park.

But he will not come cheap. An offer of at least €60 million will be needed to be placed to bring the La Liga giants to the table. The 30-year-old may still be on top of his game, but he is not getting any younger. It will be wise for Tuchel and co to assess all options before they plan to make such a big money move.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen if Chelsea makes a move for the player, who has been of interest to them for quite some time now. An experienced player, he would no doubt be a fantastic addition to Tuchel’s squad. The potential partnership of Kante and Casemiro in the middle of the park would be very exciting to see.
