Thomas Tuchel wants to sign Presnel Kimpembe and Pierre-Emerick Aubemayeng

According to Dean Jones of GiveMeSport, via Chelsea Chronicle (h/t Football.London), Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel really wants to sign defender Presnel Kimpembe from Paris-Saint Germain and striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona during this summer transfer window.

Tuchel has worked with these two players before. He spent his time with Kimpembe when at PSG. Together they went to the Champions League final in 2020, narrowly losing to Bayern Munich. With regards to Aubameyang, Tuchel coached the former Gabon international when the duo was at Borussia Dortmund.

The Blues manager has already overseen three incomings during this window – with Raheem Sterling signed from Manchester City, Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and Marc Cucurella from Brighton and Hove Albion. The trio started against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as well.

It is clear that Chelsea are active in the transfer market and would be looking to add more players before the deadline. After letting go of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, they are without an out-and-out number nine. Armando Broja is there, but the Albanian international isn’t experienced enough on the elite stage.

So, it makes sense why they are targeting Aubameyang. The 33-year-old joined Barcelona from Arsenal in January and scored 11 goals in 17 league appearances in the latter half of last season. However, with the signing of Robert Lewandowski, the Gabonese star isn’t expected to get much game time there.

In terms of the defence, Chelsea lost Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger in the summer. They have signed Koulibaly to fill in one of the centre-back positions and extended Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract.

But, Thiago Silva is 37 now and both Koulibaly and Azpilicueta are on the other side of 30. So, a need to sign a younger centre-back wouldn’t do any harm.

Hence, Kimpembe could be a good addition to this team. Tuchel knows the Frenchman from their time in Paris, and the player himself is full of quality and international experience to add to the Blues’ back-line.

More Chelsea News:

It, however, remains to be seen if the Blues can actually get their man in this window. PSG are themselves short of centre-backs of a solid age profile. With Sergio Ramos not getting any younger, it would be a surprise to see them sell Kimpembe without at least bringing in one player in that position.
