Why Conte was on the touchline against Wolves but Thomas Tuchel will miss out

The FA has confirmed punishment for Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte following their touchline spat

Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte were involved not in one but two touchline spats during the derby game last weekend. And now The FA has confirmed the punishment for both the managers according to the Mirror.

Conte has been fined £15,000 for his behaviour. Meanwhile, Tuchel has a harsher punishment with the German being issued a £35,000 fine and a suspended one-game ban. This means that he will still be available on the touchline for his side’s game against Leeds United this Sunday.

An independent Regulatory Commission has today ordered that Thomas Tuchel be fined £35,000 and banned from the touchline for one match, and Antonio Conte be fined £15,000 after they respectively breached FA Rule E3.

FA STATEMENT

Conte was seen on the touchline in Spurs’ 1-0 win against Wolves but Tuchel will not have the luxury to manage his team from up close when they take on Leeds tomorrow at Elland Road tomorrow. That is because the Italian’s touchline ban was overturned.

Tuchel has been fined and has a suspended one-game ban for his spat with Conte.

Tuchel had criticised referee Anthony Taylor after the match and even went on to suggest that it would maybe be better if he never referred his side ever again. Given the controversial decisions that Taylor made during the match, it would only be natural for any manager to say the same.

Chelse and Tottenham Hotspur played out a very entertaining and controversial 2-2 draw last weekend. Both goals for Spurs came during controversial moments and this led to a row at the touchline. Both the managers first clashed after the first equaliser by Spurs and then in the post-match handshake.

Harry Kane equalised for Spurs in injury-time from the corner, but that left Tuchel frustrated. Replays showed that Christian Romero had pulled Marc Cucurella’s hair in the box and despite a VAR check, the goal was allowed to stand. Mike Dean, who was on VAR duly admitted last Thursday that he was in the wrong for his decision.

Another day, another Anthony Taylor blunder while refereeing a Chelsea game.

But that does not matter as a lack of good and quality refereeing denied Chelsea a deserved derby win over their rivals. This is not the first time that a controversial decision has been given by a referee in an important Premier League game. No wonder there have been calls to hold the officials responsible for their decisions during the game.

Tuchel’s one-game suspension is currently suspended. It is temporarily pending the independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons for its decisions that will be made available in due course. That means Tuchel will be available at the touchline during the game against Leeds.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen if the one-match ban is upheld or not. However, one cannot completely blame the managers for their passion. Rather it would be wise for the FA to demand explanations from the referees they make during a game.
