According to journalist Gerard Romero (h/t The Express), FC Barcelona have set a price tag of £21m on their striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Barça signed the 33-year-old as a free agent earlier this year in February. This came after his Arsenal contract was terminated and he left the London club on mutual consent. His departure from Mikel Arteta’s squad is rather controversial.
Barca signing Robert Lewandowski pushes Aubameyang down the pecking order. His openness to a move comes after the Catalan giants completed Lewandowski’s signing from Bayern Munich. In 24 appearances for Barcelona, Aubameyang has 13 goals and one assist. The former Monaco man earlier this year scored a hat-trick against Valencia.
Aubameyang had the best spell of his career at Borussia Dortmund, where scored 141 goals and 36 assists in 213 appearances. Interestingly, his manager at Dortmund for most of his spell there was none other than Thomas Tuchel.
The Gabon international has 29 goals and 10 assists across 63 appearances for his nation. He retired from international football earlier this year in May.
Chelsea gaffer Thomas Tuchel, after completing the signing of Raheem Sterling earlier this transfer window, is seemingly keen to re-join forces with Aubameyang at Chelsea. His current contract at Barcelona runs down only in June 2025, but by then he will also be 36.
Tuchel, speaking recently in a press conference, termed his bond with Aubameyang “very close”. He added that enjoyed working alongside Aubameyang and did not experience any issues with him.
“There was always straight away this close bond. They always stay your players in a way.”
With Chelsea offloading Timo Werner and sending Romelu Lukaku out on loan, they are in need of a striker, and Tuchel, with his recent words on Aubameyang, further spiced up the speculation of the forward moving to Stamford Bridge.
He is nos spring chicken at his age but could be a smart short-term signing. He has experience of playing in France, Germany, England and Spain and has an eye for goal.
We can certainly use that right now if we want to go as far as possible in the four competitions we are playing in.
