According to Haberler via Chelsea HQ on Twitter (h/t football.london), Chelsea star Michy Batshuayi is in talks with Turkish Giants about a permanent transfer away from Stamford Bridge.
Batshuayi joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2016 for a fee worth around £33million after an impressive season where he scored 23 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions.
The transfer was met with a lot of excitement amongst the Blues. However, things have not materialised as the club and the player had hoped for.
The Belgian’s standout moment at the club was scoring the goal that confirmed Chelsea as champions of the 2016/17 Premier League season. While the Belgian has shown glimpses of his talent, he has not been able to cement a spot on the senior roster on a regular basis.
The Belgian signed a new two-year deal in 2021 and was sent on loan to Besiktas. He failed to impress in Turkey and is now back at Stamford Bridge. Despite Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner leaving, Batshuayi is far from assured a spot in Tuchel’s plans.
The 28-year-old was given opportunities in the pre-season but failed to leave an impression on Tuchel. It would not be wrong to suggest that Chelsea will be in the market to add a forward before the transfer window shuts.
With the World Cup approaching, Batshuayi will be looking to get minutes under his belt to book a place in the Belgian World Cup squad. Staying at Chelsea will not guarantee him that.
It should also be noted that he would be fighting for a spot in the national team with Romelu Lukaku and Divock Origi, both of whom are likely to gain regular playtime in Serie A.
With one year left on his contract, the time is rife for Chelsea to sell the player this summer. Batshuayi’s time at Stamford Bridge is as good as over and it is time for all parties to move on.
