Chelsea target Wesley Fofana has asked to be left out of the matchday squad of Leicester City

Wesley Fofana has asked Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers to be left out of the matchday squad for the Southampton game, according to Rob Tanner of the Athletic (Subscription Required) via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The 21-year-old has already reached an agreement on personal terms with the Blues. A move to Stamford Bridge is the France U21 international’s dream. Fofana is certain about his intentions.

Fofana made his move to the King Power Stadium in the summer of 2020 from Saint-Etienne. Chelsea now need to put in a new bid to entice the Foxes to part ways with their star centre-back.

The 21-year-old had an impressive debut season. Fofana took to the Premier League like a duck takes to water. The French national started 27 PL games for the Foxes in the 2020/21 campaign.

Fofana’s second season in East Midlands was hampered by injuries. In the 2021/22 campaign, the 21-year-old missed 42 games for Leicester. He returned for the Foxes towards the end of the season,

The former Saint-Etienne star is back to full fitness. He played the full 90 minutes in both the games of the new campaign for Brendan Rodger’s side.

Chelsea fans have been demanding more additions to the backline after the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. The two left the club after their contracts expired.

The Blues have only signed one centre-back, Kalidou Koulibaly, during this transfer window. Thomas Tuchel started the Senegal international against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. Thiago Silva has partnered the 31-year-old in both games.

Fofana is one of the biggest prospects in world football. With our ageing backline, the 21-year-old could also be one to lead the Blues’ defence in the future if Chelsea are successful in bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
