Transfer News: Chelsea right-back Henry Lawrence joins MK Dons on loan

According to the official Chelsea website, Henry Lawrence has joined League One side MK Dons on loan ahead of the 2022/23 season. He will spend a second season in League One having been there last season too.

Lawrence had spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon where he played 32 games despite missing two months due to an injury. The right-back was one of the better performers for the team as they failed to avoid relegation to League Two.

This season, he has joined the Dons who reached the play-offs last season. He joins goalkeeper Jamie Cumming as Chelsea players on loan at the club. Whether the duo will link up to produce promising performances remains to be seen.

Henry Lawrence has joined MK Dons on loan for next season.

A right-back who can play as a right-midfielder too, Lawrence will spend another season on loan and hopefully improve his game more. A talented player, the England Under-20 player could have a future at Stamford Bridge.

The right-back position at Chelsea is currently messed up. Cesar Azpilicueta is linked with a move to Barcelona leaving Reece James as the only option available for us in the position. With Chelsea not linked with any fall-backs currently, it is surprising that such a good talent has been allowed to leave on loan.

Thomas Tuchel will have to bring in a new fall-back should Azpilicueta leave. Rather than buying one, it could have been wiser to use one from the youth department. After all, that’s what it is there for. The German tactician is currently looking to add another centre-back to his ranks after signing Kalidou Koulibaly.

It remains to be seen what Tuchel does with the right-back position. Lawrence has a fantastic option here. He could perform really well on loan and gain Tuchel’s attention. This would give him a shot at making it to the team next season.

MK Dons made the play-offs last season but failed to gain promotion. Lawrence could become a hero if he helps them gain promotion next season. The 20-year-old has a huge season ahead of him and hopefully he will do well.
