African star wanted surprise Chelsea return if contract talks at current club failed

Transfer News: Mohamed Salah wanted Chelsea move before agreeing to Liverpool contract renewal

According to the Sun, Mohamed Salah threatened to join Chelsea this summer if he hadn’t gotten a desired wage package from Liverpool.

The Egyptian international signed a huge new contract with the Reds on Saturday, making him the club’s highest-earning employee with pay close to £400,000 per week.

However, Liverpool were left with little choice because Salah was apparently sure he could leave Anfield for Chelsea on a free transfer in a year. It is believed that Salah genuinely considered moving back to Stamford Bridge, which caused Liverpool to make a financial commitment to avert that dreadful possibility.

Salah’s agents informed Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group that his client was considering returning to Chelsea after departing in 2016, and new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was ready to sign the Egyptian if he had chosen to stick to his stance.

Due to the defensive exodus this summer, our backline must be the priority. But Salah is a player we would be smart not to miss out on. At Liverpool, he guarantees goals and assists by the bucketload each season.

Salah is renowned for his ability to dribble through the defence and do it with distinction. Romelu Lukaku’s failed return to England has resulted in a temporary return to Italy while Hakim Ziyech seems destined to seal a transfer to AC Milan.

The Egyptian-born forward has become one of the most feared forwards in the Premier League and is capable of playing a key part for any team in the division. Much to the dismay of Liverpool, Chelsea could have hugely benefited by luring such a talented player.

We all know what Salah is capable of, and if Chelsea had signed the Egyptian star, they would welcome one of Europe’s finest attackers. Moreover, that would have taken away a very strong attacker from Liverpool’s frontline- who have also signed Darwin Núñez this summer.

However, the possibility of such a transfer has ended since Salah has signed a new contract with the Reds. It would have been a sight to see Salah back at the Bridge but this is a transfer we can now forget about- at least for a few years.
