Kevin Campbell urges Arsenal to sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante

In one of the most bizarre claims this summer, former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has urged his club to make a move for Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante. He said this while talking to Football Insider (h/t football.london).

Kante who joined the Blues from Leicester City in 2016 has been a pivotal part of their midfield ever since. A machine, the 31-year-old has won it all at Chelsea and still going strong. The midfielder has established himself as one of the best in the Premier League and also the world.

The World Cup winner has one-year remaining in his current contract which has created doubt over his future at Stamford Bridge. Campbell believes that Arsenal should take advantage of this and make a move for the midfielder.

“For me, if the money was right – I’d do it straight away. He’s someone who knows how to operate in the Premier League. He’s still one of the best around, and that midfield area is still a massive problem area for Arsenal. I don’t think there has been a better exponent of that midfield engine room in recent years than N’Golo Kante.”

It appears very unlikely that Kante will leave the club this summer. The player could not travel with the squad to the United States due to his Covid vaccination status, but that does not imply he may be leaving. He is still one of the regular starters under Thomas Tuchel and this is very unlikely to change next season.

Kante is one of the best examples of a box-to-box midfielder in the modern game. A horse in the midfield who rarely gets tired, he can be considered to be the heart of the Chelsea midfield. One of the most likeable figures in the game, he is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge.

But he is not getting any younger and cannot be expected to start all games for Chelsea. Tuchel has Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher in his ranks who could provide back-up to the midfielder and they are looking likely to get more game time next season.

The player has one year left in his current contract and Chelsea would be wise to offer him a new one as early as possible. Kante still has a lot to offer and the club could regret losing one of their best players for very less or maybe free to one of their arch-rivals. This is something everyone at Chelsea would love to avoid.

However, it is very unlikely that he will leave this summer. The Chelsea fans will hope that their midfielder stays with them for as long as possible, while some would hope that he retires in a Chelsea shirt at Stamford Bridge.
