According to Sport Italia (h/t football.london), the representatives from Inter Milan are in London to hold a meeting with Paris Saint-Germain for the transfer of Chelsea target Milan Skriniar,
The 27-year-old has just one year left on his contract with the Nerazzurri. The Serie A giants are looking to sell the Slovak international to balance their books and the French capital is a potential destination.
Chelsea have been interested in signing Skriniar for a while now. However, it seems the Blues will have to contend with PSG to secure the Slovak’s signature. Having already lost Nordi Mukiele to the Ligue 1 giants, Thomas Tuchel and co will be hoping for a better outcome this time around.
Chelsea have a lack of experienced options when it comes to the centre-back role. Currently, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta are the only two accomplished defenders at Thomas Tuhcel’s disposal. There is a void on the roster given the summer departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
Kalidou Koulibaly has been the only defensive signing of this window. The 31-year-old joined from Napoli with the reputation of being a world-class defender. But it remains to be seen how well the Senegalese international operates in the Premier League.
The other options we have at the moment are Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr. Unfortunately, the youngsters are still inexperienced and have errors in them. Although they did play a considerable role last season, fans feel we need more quality to challenge for titles in the upcoming campaign.
The pre-season has shown indications of frailties in the Chelsea backline. The Arsenal game was a wake-up call for the hierarchy to act swiftly before the transfer window closes.
We needed to be proactive rather than reactive in bringing in new players after ley members of our XI earlier this summer. But the Blues haven’t been able to get many signings over the line.
Skriniar is now a target we can’t let slip through our fingers. Chelsea have already experienced setbacks this summer. Another one wouldn’t bode well for our plans for the upcoming season.
