Transfer News: Chelsea joins the race to sign MK Dons defender Harry Darling

According to Footballleagueworld, Chelsea have shifted their attention to talented Championship defender Harry Darling amid a defensive dilemma.

Since joining the League One club from Cambridge United in January 2021, the 22-year-old has had steady progress over the last few years.

Darling played 48 times for the Dons last season, barely missing out on promotion to the Championship after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Wycombe Wanderers in the play-off semi-finals.

The Blues are rumoured to be interested in the centre-back, who scored 10 goals in the 2021/22 season. However, if Thomas Tuchel’s club is truly interested in Darling, they may face heavy competition to sign him as Brighton and Norwich, two Premier League opponents, are said to be keeping an eye on the defender.

Because Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are both set to go this summer, it is critical that we replace two crucial members of the squad with top-tier newcomers. That might be a problem, given how tough it is to find players in this category, and how pricey they can be.

Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, and Malang Sarr are among our options, but they are not yet ready to take the reins and be regular starters. Given the outcome, a centre-back addition is crucial to compete for the crucial titles next season.

This season, Thomas Tuchel will be seeking to put together a Chelsea group that can fight at the top end of the Premier League.

It is no longer a secret that the Blues will be severely short of choices at centre-back next season, and one or two signings might not be enough to deal with the issue. Darling will be an excellent player to sign keeping in mind the long-term prospect.
