Transfer News: Chelsea offered a glimmer of hope in Aurelien Tchouameni pursuit

According to Football Transfers via @Santos_Relevo (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have been handed a late glimmer of hope in the pursuit of French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni with a supposed move to Real Madrid seemingly complicated.

The former Bordeaux man joined Monaco in 2020 and has since then gone on to become one of the world’s biggest midfield prospects. The defensive midfielder has been setting the Ligue 1 alight with his performances and is hot property for many clubs in Europe.

The 22-year-old has played 50 times for the club this season scoring five goals and providing three assists across all competitions. Having already made eight appearances for the French national team, the talent that Tchouameni possesses is very evident.

Real Madrid were supposedly very close to agreeing on a deal for the talented French midfielder but it is now emerging that a deal may be much more complicated than it seems. PSG are said to be willing to offer more money to the Frenchman, but this offers Chelsea a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of the player.

A window of hope?

The fact that Chelsea are interested in signing Tchouameni comes as no surprise with the Blues in need of a young and dynamic midfielder to fit Thomas Tuchel’s system.

Just when it seemed all was over in the pursuit of the 22-year-old, the complications with Real Madrid have offered us a window of hope that we must try to seize. The player is supposedly keen on joining Los Blancos but if a move fails to materialise then there would be other options for him as well.

A defensive midfielder also capable of playing further forward, the Frenchman would be the perfect fit for Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea. N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are entering the wrong side of their 30s and are no longer the players they once were.

Mateo Kovacic has exceptional ability but struggles to stay fit while Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley impressed only in patches. In Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour, we have two talented young Englishmen and both players could have a huge future here.

Adding Tchouameni to this mix would have the Blues midfield sorted for many years to come. We still have the slightest of chances to pull this off and need to go all out and hope for the best.

Those who want the Blues to sign Tchouameni- which may well be a majority of the club’s fanbase- would hope that his move to Madrid falls through.
