Speaking to French radio network RMC Sport, as quoted by GFFN (h/t Football.London), PSG centre-back Presnel Kimpembe speaks about the plans for his future amidst interest from Chelsea.
Kimpembe has been a part of the Paris Saint-Germain set-up ever since he was a youth player and finally broke through into the first team in 2015. Ever since the Frenchman has gone on to establish himself as one of the best defenders in Ligue 1 during this period.
The 26-year-old has been rock solid at the back for the French giants even this season under Mauricio Pochettino. The talented defender has played 41 times for the Ligue 1 champions this campaign scoring two goals and providing one assist across all competitions.
Chelsea have been interested in signing the French defender this summer and when quizzed about his future, Kimpembe said
“Everyone knows the love I have for Paris Saint-Germain – it’s reciprocal. I’ll be 27 in August, it’s a key moment in my career. I’m waiting to meet with the new management with regard to the club’s project. We’ll have to speak very soon.”
That Chelsea need reinforcements at the back comes as absolutely no surprise with the Blues finding themselves extremely understaffed in the department.
Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have left the club and this means Chelsea will have to shop for centre-backs in the market. Whilst many names are being linked with the Blues, no player has been signed yet and we will have to act fast.
Presnel Kimpembe will be a dream signing. The Frenchman is an extremely talented centre-back who tends to go down the radar often. The 26-year-old has all that it takes to become one of the best centre-backs in the world if he comes to the Premier League.
The PSG man has a contract with the French club till 2024 and if he wanted to leave, PSG could choose to sell him this summer to get maximum value out of him. However, being a part of the youth ranks since 2011, Kimpembe might want to stay at the Parc des Princes.
If Kimpembe wishes for a change and decides to make the switch to Chelsea, it will be worth paying the money that the French club has for him. Else, we will have to look for alternate options.
