Transfer News: Chelsea target Joao Felix content at Atletico Madrid

Joao Felix is looking forward to staying at Atletico Madrid amidst interest from Premier League clubs, including Chelsea.

In an interview, as per Marca (h/t Mirror), the Portuguese youngster talked about his future with Los Colchoneros and said that he was focused on the Madrid club and calm about the future. The 22-year-old admitted that a move away was not in consideration.

The Blues are said to be interested in Felix, according to Correio de Manha (h/t Mirror), alongside Manchester United and Tottenham. The side from West London is keeping tabs on the young forward’s situation at Atletico.

Felix has a long way to go

The Portuguese sensation made a £113million from Benfica to the Madrid-based club in 2019. But the 22-year-old hasn’t lived up to expectations in the Spanish capital. In the three years, Felix has been at the club, the youngster has played 110 games scoring 29 and assisting 15 goals.

The forward has played in multiple positions, but Diego Simeone seems to prefer playing him behind the striker. For the big money the Portuguese international was signed for, fans haven’t been too happy with the forward’s output. While still young, it seems the pressure of the price tag has somewhat hindered the 22-year-old’s progress in Madrid.

Joao Felix has not lived up to expectations at Atletico since his move from Benfica.

If Atletico’s number 7 does decide to move to pastures new, it would only make sense that Atletico would want to recoup the money they’ve spent on the former Benfica man. This would mean any team interested in getting him from the Wanda Metropolitano would have to pay a pretty penny to secure the signing of the Portuguese forward.

At Chelsea, goalscoring was a problem last season as none of the Blues’ players scored more than 15 goals in all competitions. For a team that was expected to challenge for the title, the lack of penetration in the final third eventually left the fans at Stamford Bridge disappointed.

With Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and other forwards at the club already underperforming, it’d be interesting to see whether Thomas Tuchel would want another unproven and under-confident attacker at the club.
