According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea and Inter Milan are going to discuss the fate of Romelu Lukaku in the coming days.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel’s first move in the summer window might be to sanction a deal that sends Lukaku back to Inter Milan. It appears to be exactly what the Belgian wants, and given that Tuchel has only utilised our club’s record acquisition as a body to warm the benches in recent months, he’s probably not too concerned about it.
Lukaku has been described as a guy working tirelessly behind the scenes to construct this possibility over the last several weeks, and it appears that his efforts have paid off. The 29-year-old could now return to the place where he re-established his reputation as an ace striker.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Inter Milan are poised for “direct discussions” following the foundation created by Lukaku and his intermediaries. This indicates that we are at the very least willing to examine this option.
There is a high possibility that any deal involving Lukaku would have to be a loan, maybe with an option, albeit Chelsea would receive joint custody of his salary, which is bad. Signing him might turn into a blunder if the aforementioned scenario happens in the summer window.
Chelsea did not receive the striker for whom they spent £97.5 million; instead, they acquired an out-of-form Lukaku, who has failed to adjust to Tuchel’s tactics in his first season back in West London. Now, if he continues on this losing streak, it will be detrimental to all parties concerned.
If Chelsea agrees to sell or loan him after only one season with the club, the club will suffer a significant financial loss. Given the Belgian striker’s current form, it’s unlikely that any elite team will pay the fee, much alone his exorbitant salaries.
Keeping him at the club against his choice, on the other hand, would be counterproductive to our team’s goals. If Lukaku loses interest in the endeavour, he may not be able to demonstrate the degree of work necessary to attain world-class status.
What all of the people involved desire is still a bit of a mystery. The scenario would alter if the club had a one-on-one talk with the Belgian star about his objectives to see whether his intentions are in the club’s best interests.
