Everton boss Frank Lampard interested in Chelsea duo Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher

According to talkSPORT (h/t The Mirror), Everton manager Frank Lampard is keen to secure a summer transfer deal for Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour.

The Toffees boss was the one in charge when both players started to make a name for themselves for the Blues’ youth sides. Both of them have since gone on to enjoy successful loan spells elsewhere, boosting their profile in England.

Gallagher was the standout player of the duo last season, winning the Crystal Palace player of the season. Gilmour had his moments at Norwich City but never quite got going at Carrow Road. His team ultimately got relegated with the Scotsman struggling for regular starts.

Both starlets will return to Stamford Bridge this summer and a huge decision awaits Thomas Tuchel regarding their immediate futures. One option is to let them go out on loan to Everton, who are keen on landing both players.

What should Chelsea do?

Gallagher is yet to make his senior bow for Chelsea while Gilmour has already received his first taste of it. Lampard was the one to hand the latter his debut and would certainly like him to help him at Goodison Park.

Lampard has a big season ahead of him on Merseyside after helping Everton escape relegation. Central midfield is a major cause for concern given the lack of reliable options.

Donny van de Beek will return to Manchester United when his loan spell ends while Dele Alli has not met expectations. Landing Gallagher and Gilmour will certainly hand him two good options to make a positive impact.

Chelsea for their part also needs reinforcements in midfield. N’Golo Kante is not getting any younger while Jorginho could be on their way out. Mateo Kovacic has also struggled with injuries and we could do with an infusion of young blood.

There is no doubt that fans wouldn’t be happy if the club permanently offloads the talented duo in the same window. A loan spell can help their careers but the Blues must understand the importance of youth players with a view of long-term planning.
