It’s going to be an incredibly busy next few days for those at SW6 as Chelsea have now turned up their transfer activity a couple of notches. A fee has been agreed upon with Leeds United for the transfer of Raphinha to Stamford Bridge, a second bid for Raheem Sterling is imminent, and a meeting is set for later this week with Juventus officials for centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.
Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has been subject to Chelsea interest for a while, but it’s Paris St-Germain who have been cited as favourites to land the Slovakia captain amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur too.
With Chelsea focused on so many other targets, it’s only natural to think that way – given that no other club has made any serious move for him yet.
Skriniar’s name was floated as part of a proposed swap-deal during Romelu Lukaku discussions between Chelsea and Inter, but was quickly turned down by the Italian giants and eventually a straight loan deal with no option or obligation to buy was agreed upon.
Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has hinted in recent days that should a reasonable offer for Skriniar arrive, it will be in the best interest of the Nerazzurri to let him leave.
According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs (h/t Football.london), Skriniar will be available for a fee in the region of £60 million and that PSG, despite having agreed personal terms with Skriniar, are yet to settle on a fee which leaves the door very much open for Chelsea as well as Tottenham.
Chelsea have no reason to rush for Skriniar just yet. Focus is solely on getting the Raphinha and Sterling deals over the line, before advancing in negotiations for De Ligt.
Jules Kounde has been a long-term target but despite Chelsea seemingly letting their foot off the gas, don’t rule out a move for the Frenchman just yet.
PSG don’t seem to be any closer to agreeing a fee, and Spurs’ reluctance to rush into big-money moves means that Chelsea have enough time on their hands to reconsider their course of action for Skriniar.
