“What we deserved”- Some fans react as Chelsea squander two-goal lead vs Wolves to drop points

Twitter Reaction: Fans react as Chelsea share a point with Wolves through a late Conor Coady goal

Chelsea drew 2-2 with Wolverhampton Wanderers in a game where they squandered a two-goal lead to spurn the chance of tightening their grip on third position.

Conor Coady scored a last-minute equaliser with seconds remaining on the clock to help Wolves clinch a point. Chelsea might suffer a major setback as Arsenal and Tottenham close in on them, with Manchester United vying for fourth place.

Chelsea had two goals disallowed in the first half before Romelu Lukaku scored his first goal for the club in 2022 with a second-half penalty. Two minutes later, the out-of-form striker doubled the advantage with a superb finish.

However, with 10 minutes remaining, Francisco Trincao scored for Wolves before Coady scored in the 97th minute to give Wolves a point. Chelsea dominated possession early on but failed to capitalise on their dominance, with Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku, and Christian Pulisic all going close before Wolves got a foothold in the game with a pair of opportunities of their own from Romain Saiss and Ruben Neves.

Todd Boehly, a part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, watched the game after his consortium won the bid to buy Chelsea in the early hours of Saturday.

The hosts opened the second half strongly and were awarded a penalty at 55 minutes after Lukaku was tripped in the box by Saiss’ trailing leg. The Belgian sent Sa the wrong way to convert the free-kick and put Chelsea ahead for the first time since December.

Just two minutes later, Lukaku doubled Chelsea’s advantage with a stunning 20-yard goal after Pulisic grabbed possession from Wolves’ defence. However, on 79 minutes, substitute Trincao broke the deadlock by firing a left-footed drive past Mendy from the edge of the box.

The game appeared to be lost for the visitors until Coady struck the back of the net with the final shot of the game, slamming in a Chiquinho cross from six yards out to secure the draw.

This draw will make the new owner think about what he needs to accomplish once he takes over the club. Chelsea will need to regroup and focus on the forthcoming games if they are to remain in the top four of the League table.
