West Ham United make a lucrative new contract offer to Chelsea target Declan Rice

According to talkSPORT on Twitter (h/t Football.London), West Ham United have proposed a new contract offer to Chelsea target Declan Rice in an attempt to fight off transfer interest from elsewhere. He has attracted quite a lot of attention from some of the top Premier League clubs for a potential move.

The Blues are eager to add Rice to their ranks, but they also face competition from Manchester United and Manchester City. West Ham are looking to ward off interest from all these interested parties and have offered a ridiculous eight-year renewal proposal to the midfielder.

The latest offer from the Hammers would also see him earn £200,000-a-week in wages as they look to keep hold of their star man. This move is a statement from the Englishman’s current club to build the team around him, but whether he would accept it or not remains to be seen.

Concern for Chelsea?

An eight-year contract offer in and of itself does secure one’s future for the long term, but it also comes with a massive risk in the process. After all, the player would see his options close up if he wants to leave elsewhere for a fresh challenge. Hence, one could argue that the 23-year-old could reject this latest attempt from David Moyes’ side just like he refuted the three other offers before this latest one.

The Premier League ace has a dream of playing in the Champions League, which is a difficult goal to achieve even under a resurgent West Ham side. After all, there are several other teams who are in a far better state than them at this moment. Hence, penning the new deal could be putting his aspirations at risk for that reason.

As such, the argument that the Hammers talisman could reject the latest proposal does hold some weight after all. However, we have to wait and see what the response from the defensive midfielder would be regarding this latest contract offer.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will hope that Rice would reject the extension offer and seek a return to the Bridge. They could use him in their ranks as both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are nearing the end of their playing careers. Both of them have played a key role for us over the years and replacing them will not be an easy task.

Rice certainly possesses the qualities required to pertain to our needs, but whether he would be available in the market or not would only be known in due time. Penning the latest offer would essentially end our interest so let’s hope that the midfielder would reject that renewal attempt as soon as possible.
