Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel wants to sign Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea

According to Florian Plettenberg on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wants to sign Bundesliga breakout star Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

The Paris Saint-Germain youth star joined the German club in 2019 and has since then gone on to impress with the Bundesliga outfit. This season, Nkunku has had an unbelievable season that has made the entirety of Europe sit up and take notice of the French striker.

The 24-year-old hybrid striker has scored 35 goals and provided 20 assists across all competitions in just 51 games this season. Such numbers are not normal and Nkunku is indeed proving to be a very special footballer with an incredible eye for a goal.

The Frenchman has a contract with the club till 2024 and Leipzig are said to be not very keen to sell the player. The club is said to be keen to renew their star asset on a longer deal and hopes to keep him in the German top flight for much longer.

An insane talent?

Nkunku is undoubtedly one of the hottest prospects in world football at the moment, producing unbelievable numbers at Leipzig. At 24, he is entering his prime and appears to be on the cusp of a special career.

Chelsea’s struggles in front of goal have been documented this season with both strikers, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner struggling to put away their chances this season. The Blues could certainly do with some reinforcements in the forward areas and Nkunku seems like the perfect answer.

Thomas Tuchel would have seen the youngster train in his formative years with PSG, and if he is indeed keen on bringing the player to Stamford Bridge, there is no doubt that the German manager rated the talented 24-year-old very highly.

Nkunku, if he moves to England though might take time adapting to the Premier League. As we have seen with Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, players from the Bundesliga do not take to English football that easily and we will have to be patient with the Frenchman.

Christopher Nkunku will be a great signing for Chelsea. It will not be easy, however, with the Blues still to convince the player but if he indeed comes here, the Blues will have a very special player on their hands.
