After a dismal season at Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku intends to talk with Thomas Tuchel to discuss his future

According to Fabrizio Romano in his column for Caughtoffside (h/t football.london), Romelu Lukaku is having a difficult season at Chelsea and expects to speak with Thomas Tuchel about his future with the Blues. The Belgian is curious about his future role at the club and Tuchel’s plans for him next season.

Lukaku was let off the hook of recent criticisms after scoring his first Premier League goal last Saturday against Wolves, and then doubled the advantage for the Blues by scoring minutes later. However, his effort was unable to secure Chelsea all three points, as Wolves equalised in the dying minutes of the game.

And so, the big question is if he will stay or want to move out of Stamford Bridge after the season ends. It’s not confirmed yet and no negotiations have been made, according to Romano.

“As of today, there are no negotiations to sign Romelu Lukaku in the summer.”

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has had a tough time so far in England.

All negotiations are also currently stalled due to sanctions imposed on the club. However, Lukaku’s desire to go or stay must also be considered, as he is regaining confidence following his brace at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

“The sanctions have obviously blocked any kind of approach from other clubs, because no one knows what Chelsea will want to do with Romelu: what is the price after spending €115m on him 10 months ago? What would be the conditions for a transfer?

Will he stay at Chelsea?

According to the transfer expert, there is still time to reveal anything about the Belgian’s future because the ownership takeover isn’t really finalised, and the ex-Inter Milan striker has chosen to discuss this with his manager.

So far it is too early to think about his future, but certainly Lukaku intends to speak with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the current season to understand the club’s plans as Romelu wants to be a key player for next season.

Romelu Lukaku to decide his future after discussing with Thomas Tuchel

The conversation with Tuchel would affect his decision to stay. But hopefully, the brace against Bruno Lage’s men has instilled him with confidence and he can build on that.

The season isn’t over and he still has a few games to make his case to the German manager. That is, if the Belgian intends to stay here. He is not getting any younger and arguably in the latter stages of his prime years right now, Lukaku would understand that first-team football is important for him to make the most as a top-level footballer.

The Belgian is undeniably gifted and a diligent worker. He demonstrated this with his performance at Inter following a brief stint at Old Trafford. He struggled at times in England but has come back to prove his case.

More Chelsea news

The same would be true if we offered him another chance to prove everyone wrong. He has practically clawed his way back into the starting 11 after Tuchel decided to start him against Wolves; perhaps there is more to come from the Belgian.

Having signed him just last summer, the Blues would be wise to either give him more time or get compensated in a way that doesn’t make last summer’s deal one we live to regret from a financial standpoint.
