Inter Milan make an improved contract offer for Chelsea target Ivan Perisic

According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t football.london), Inter Milan have offered Croatian star Ivan Perisic an improved contract offer amidst interest from Chelsea.

The 33-year-old has been one of Inter’s best players this season, aiding them in their success in the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia. He also impressed for them in Serie A as the Nerazzurri agonizingly missed out on the title to arch-rivals AC Milan.

Despite his age, Perisic continues to be a dynamic presence on the left wing and has consistently used his experience to make a difference. Signing him would not give Chelsea a long-term solution but will offer them an answer to their woes in attack for the immediate future.

Ivan Perisic could be on the move in the summer.

According to Sports Mediaset (h/t football.london), Perisic is seeking a three-year contract worth around £100,000-per-week in wages. The Nerazzurri for their part are not keen to meet the player’s demands and have offered him just £65,000-per-week over two years.

Inter’s original offer falls well short of Perisic’s expectations. They have now made an improved approach of around £81,000-per-week and it remains to be seen if the 33-year-old is fair game. Chelsea can certainly offer the Croatian better terms and it remains to be seen if he will consider a move to the Bridge.

Marcos Alonso seems like he is on the wane in recent months while Ben Chilwell’s injury showed how depth down that side could have helped the Blues navigate through a hectic fixture list. Perisic can also play as a winger along with playing as a full-back.

Ivan Perisic has enjoyed a successful spell at Inter Milan.

Simone Inzaghi has built a strong Inter side. However, they are too reliant on the likes of Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic among others. Losing a star player of the former’s calibre will be difficult to achieve and whether it will force their hand in negotiations remains to be seen.

With Inter facing a fight on their hands, the time may be rife for Chelsea to make overtures. The Blues are set for a new era and might part ways with Christian Pulsiic among others this summer. Landing Perisic will at least give us an able replacement for the immediate future.

Moreover, we can be a bit relaxed when it comes to the left flank. He might not be the youngest player around but Perisic has shown he has the legs and the quality to succeed at a club like Chelsea.
