According to the Mirror, Chelsea target Declan Rice has suggested that he can produce more impressive spells after coming third in the Football Writers’ Association’s Player of the Year award.
Declan Rice has given a sensational spell for country and club this season. He has become one of the best central midfielders following his display this term and has bagged five goals and four assists in the process. He has grabbed success on the international front by helping his team reach the EURO final.
Declan Rice was voted third in the Football Writers’ Association’s Player award trailing Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne. This incredible achievement showcases how far the Blues academy graduate has come. However, the 23-year-old believes this is only the start for him.
In a recent interview, the West Ham midfielder suggested that he trusts himself to produce more in the coming years. Still just 23, he has the best years of his career ahead of him.
“I feel like I’ve taken another step in the right direction in my career, but I’m still only 23 and trust me, I know myself; I’ve got so much more that I can let out of the bag. I know that; my coaches tell me that.
He acknowledged the incredible achievement of coming third in the FWA award and revealed that he could become even more capable as he grows older. Having been linked to Chelsea, it remains to be seen if he will achieve it at Stamford Bridge or elsewhere.
“I think it just comes with time, and as I get older, it will keep coming and coming, but I feel like you’re only starting to see the start of me. I feel like I’m going to keep pushing and getting better.”
Declan Rice has been linked with a comeback to Chelsea in recent times. Even though the 23-year-old midfielder hasn’t shown any sign of leaving his current club, his urge to gain success could influence him to take up a new challenge.
Chelsea’s Jorginho and N’Golo Kanté are getting older with every passing season. They would probably need to be replaced in a few years.
Rice ticks all the boxes of a top-notch holding midfielder. His confidence in the recent interviews suggests that he has a strong mindset. He has already spent time in the Chelsea academy; hence he knows the structure and damned very well. Therefore, he probably wouldn’t face many problems adapting to our team.
However, to have any claim over the exciting talent, our board has to put forward an offer first. It remains to be seen when the Blues board would take such an action.
