Rival teams keeping tabs on one of Chelsea’s lowest-paid senior stars

Chelsea star Mason Mount has become the target of massive interest from Premier League and foreign clubs

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), three big clubs from the Premier League along with other foreign admirers are interested in luring away Mason Mount from Chelsea.

Mount has been key to Chelsea’s success in recent times. Since laying the assist for Kai Havertz’s goal in the Champions League final against Manchester City last year, he has added UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup medals to his tally.

The Englishman has become one of the most important creative outlets in this team. But despite his rise, it seems that Mount isn’t financially compensated to the extent that he deserves to.

Mason Mount has become the target of serious interest from three top tier Premier League teams.

Mount remains one of the lowest earners of the club, and the Blues haven’t shown any indication as to improving his wages either. Amid such a situation, the UK government’s sanctions have made it even more difficult for the club to guarantee the player an improved contract.

Even though there hasn’t been any problem until now, rival teams have sniffed Blues’ insecurities and are currently keeping a close tab on Mount. It is believed that apart from foreign teams, three big Premier League clubs are also interested in the 23-year-old star.

Would Chelsea be able to keep hold of Mount?

Mount has two years left on his Chelsea contract. After making considerable contributions in the last two years, the academy graduate would expect a much better deal, including wage improvements.

Mason Mount and Thomas Tuchel embrace after full-time.

But for that to happen, the Blues must sort out their ownership uncertainties first. When the sale of the club is officially complete, perhaps then fans and those within the club can take a sigh of relief.

If the interested teams grab the attention of Mount, then it could become a point of concern for the west London outfit. Mount has the potential to become one of the best in the country, hence the blues wouldn’t want to lose such a player to a rival team in any situation.

To keep Mount at the club, the Blues would be wise to keep a steady line of communication with him. We’ve already seen academy stars such as Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi, and Tammy Abraham leave in the past year. We cannot add Mount’s name to that list no matter what happens.
