Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta opens up on players’ role in the club’s takeover

According to football.london, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has sent a message to Todd Boehly, expressing his disappointment at the team’s failure to give their soon-to-be new owner a first win. He also talked about the players’ involvement in the takeover situation.

Chelsea drew against Wolves in their Premier League match on Saturday, only hours after Todd Boehly was officially introduced as the club’s new owner. The new owner attended the match and players had a good opportunity to provide him with the maiden win.

Although Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the second half, Trincao and Conor Coady guaranteed that Boehly did not see his side win at Stamford Bridge, as he witnessed firsthand the huge investment required in this Blues squad.

Chelsea announced on its official website that the club will be taken over by the group led by Todd Boehly. Hopefully we can welcome him with a win next time around.

Players’ involvement in the takeover

Regarding the player’s role in the takeover issue, Azpilicueta spoke to sky sports :

 “The team has been completely out of the process,” 

“Our focus has been on the pitch. Of course we are disappointed not to give the first win for him. It is out of our hands so not worth wasting energy on that.”

Azpilicueta himself had a really bad game against the Wolves. He couldn’t match the pace of the game and looked too slow at times.

Along with the departing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is unlikely to be a part of the Boehly era. He is likely to move to Barcelona this summer with one more year left in his contract.

If the players didn’t have anything to do with the ownership change, as the team captain noted, they needed to focus on the pitch and perform better. We’ve only won one match in our last five meetings; if the ownership situation isn’t the reason, we need to figure out what is and fix it.
