Transfer News: The agent of Jorginho has clarified his client’s Chelsea future

Speaking to 1 Station radio as quoted by Football.London, Joao Santos, agent of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has dropped a huge hint regarding the future of his star client at Stamford Bridge.

The former Napoli man joined the Blues back in 2018 and despite a mixed start to life in London, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the key pillars of this Chelsea team, especially under Thomas Tuchel. The Italian was instrumental in the Blues’ Champions League pursuit last season.

Despite a very inconsistent season at best this time around where Jorginho has received a lot of criticism for his performances, the Italian still continues to be a key cog in the team. The 30-year-old deep-lying playmaker has made 47 appearances for the Blues scoring nine goals and providing four assists across all competitions.

The Italian’s contract with the Blues expires next summer and there has been a lot of confusion regarding his future at Stamford Bridge beyond this season. Speaking about his client’s future, Santos said:

“He still has one year on his contract with the Blues , the priority is renewal. At the moment, however, Chelsea cannot operate on the market for issues arising from the sale of Abramovich, so we will meet with the company to discuss it.”

First hint?

After weeks of speculation over the future of Jorginho at Chelsea, his agent seems to have dropped the first hint that the player may be looking to stay on at Stamford Bridge after all.

The Blues are in the middle of a takeover and until that is completed, they do not have the permission to start contract talks with any of the existing players and that leaves Jorginho’s situation in limbo. Although his agent says that renewal is the priority, the player would be keen to have clarity over his future very soon.

With supposed interest from Juventus, he could be swayed towards leaving the club. A return to his home country to the biggest club in the league is something that is certainly a prospect to consider if you are Jorginho.

If the 30-year-old stays, he can still be of great utility to the Blues. If he decides to leave though, it is not the end of the world. We have players like Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour waiting in the wings to get their opportunity in our XI and either Cobham graduate could fill in the void left by the Italian.

They might not have a lot of experience in the top flight, but Mason Mount and Reece James serve as two big examples of what can transpire if talented players are trusted with first-team responsibilities.

A huge summer awaits Jorginho. It is one where he will have to make a decision on his future. If he manages to renew with us, then good. If not, the club can look for someone to fill in for him and move on.
