Transfer News: Inter Milan considering re-signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea along with Juventus’ Paulo Dybala

According to Sky Italia (via SportsMole) (h/t Football London), Inter Milan could take a transfer U-turn regarding Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea and could pursue a double deal for him and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala.

The Belgian striker moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer but has struggled to make the kind of impact expected of him following his move to London. Lukaku has since then lost his place to Kai Havertz in the starting 11 and is struggling to break into the team.

The former Manchester United hitman was tearing it up with the Nerazzurri in the Serie A last season alongside Lautaro Martinez, playing a pivotal role in guiding them to their first Scudetto in 11 years. His exploits at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza earned him a lot of plaudits but all of that seems like a distant memory right now.

The 28-year-old’s struggles at the London-based club are well documented and it seems like the Nerazzurri want to offer him an escape route. Lukaku just signed for us last summer and his current deal runs out in 2026.

Dybala, meanwhile, is out of contract in the summer and has failed to renew a new deal with Juventus and will be available on a free transfer. With Alexis Sanchez expected to leave Milan in the summer, a spot in the attack could open for Inter.

Not a happy homecoming?

The second homecoming of Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge was expected to be a roaring success but at its best, it has been mixed.

Whilst the 28-year-old had a decent start to life at Stamford Bridge, fast-forward to the present and he is struggling to cement a regular position in the playing XI. The Belgian international has managed a sub-par return of five goals and no assists in 20 Premier League games so far this campaign.

With Kai Havertz putting up some impressive performances in recent memory, the former Evertonian has slipped even further down the pecking order at Chelsea. With all factors combined, it remains to be seen where the future lies for Lukaku this summer.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is in contact with Inter Milan chiefs to secure a move back to the Serie A club.

There is a question of whether it may be too soon to pull the plug on Lukaku’s time at Stamford Bridge. At his best, we all know that the 28-year-old is capable of being one of the deadliest strikers in the world. Injuries and Covid have not made it easy for the Belgian in his first season back in England.

If Lukaku can reignite his spark, he could definitely be the answer to Chelsea’s well-documented striker issues. Right now, the Belgian doesn’t seem to be in the fray for automatic selection but a few performances on a consistent basis could make Thomas Tuchel reconsider his plans.

The Blues have been faltering of late, with two losses in their last two games against Brentford and Real Madrid. Chelsea will have to overcome Los Blancos’ 3-1 lead from the first leg if they are to progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Maybe the Bernebeau is the place the talented striker announces himself in a Chelsea shirt. If Lukaku starts and manages to produce the unthinkable, his whole situation at Stamford Bridge will look far different from how it looks today.
