Transfer News: Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele could stay with Barcelona next season

According to the Spanish source Sport (h/t The Sun), Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele could decide to stay with Barcelona past this summer transfer window. This update would undoubtedly be a blow for the English club, especially looking at how the attacker has fared recently.

Dembele will see his current contract with Barca expire at the end of this season. The Blues have been linked with a move to sign him, but it appears that a departure is not on the cards anymore. That is because he could decide to renew his deal despite receiving better proposals from elsewhere.

A new meeting regarding a potential extension will take place shortly, with both parties aiming to reach an agreement. Earlier, the Frenchman had demanded a £67million contract, but his commitment to staying at Camp Nou could convince him to change his stance on the wage demand amidst the financial difficulties suffered by the Spanish giants.

Transfer blow?

The 24-year-old has been on hot form since Xavi Hernandez took over the reins from Ronald Koeman. The former has two goals and eleven assists to his name from 27 matches under his new boss. That is a great output for someone who has struggled with form and injury over the last few years.

Dembele’s recent form has greatly boosted the prospect of signing him as he finally seems in line to fulfil his full potential. However, the latest piece of information would not bode well for us if that happens to be true. After all, we could use a man of his talents in our squad.

It is always good to have a fast winger who has the ability to go past a defender. We have struggled going forward in recent weeks with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner not firing on all cylinders. Even Kai Havertz was off the pace in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United yesterday.

Moreover, he would also offer Thomas Tuchel more options due to his flexibility to play in both wings. Those who have seen him play know the kind of threat he offers down the flanks- possessing the skill to either cut inside or go outside and create chances for his team.

The current sanctions imposed on us by the UK Government prevent us from engaging in transfer talks with our summer targets. That has clearly affected our ability to take care of transfer dealings as compared to other clubs.

Fans that do want the ex-Borussia Dortmund star at Stamford Bridge would now only be left with the hope that negotiations regarding a renewal fall apart in Barcelona. Let’s wait and see how the due meeting will develop in the coming days.
