According to the Spanish publication Sport (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have held fresh talks with Mino Raiola regarding a potential move to sign Erling Haaland in the 2022 summer transfer window. He is one of the most sought after players in world football at this moment due to the once in a while market opportunity.
Haaland has been on fire at Borussia Dortmund, and he has certainly earned lots of plaudits since his move from RB Salzburg. More importantly, a generational talent like him will be available on a cut-price deal this summer which has garnered attention from a host of major European clubs.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich have expressed their interest in the Norwegian to sign him for just £63million in transfer fees. Now, it seems that the Blues are making their move, having held meetings with the striker’s agent Raiola over a summer transfer.
Another centre-forward should have been the last thing we needed had Romelu Lukaku lived up to the expectations in which he was signed. However, his time at Stamford Bridge has not been rosy at all, as he has struggled to perform at the same level that he did at Inter Milan.
Timo Werner has been on the same boat, and we could potentially see one of them move on if the club decides to cut their losses to create space for Haaland. That is a possibility that we cannot overlook, as it could give us some leeway to raise the funds required to finalise a transfer.
Haaland has had a rather “subdued” season so far, having scored 23 goals alongside six assists from 24 matches across all competitions. Injuries have plagued him throughout this season but the Norwegian forward continues to maintain his hot streak in front of the goal.
It is no wonder why so many clubs have circled around to get their hands on the 21-year-old. After all, it is possible that the attacker could significantly improve his tally with more consistent game time. Not to mention, a move to a better team could contribute towards the same reasons.
The attack has always been our issue, and perhaps Haaland could be the solution. A man of his talents usually costs more, but we have an opportunity to get him for cheap this summer. As such, it remains to be seen what stance would Thomas Tuchel’s side take in this matter following the new discussions they had with Raiola.
