Transfer News: Jack Wilshere urges Declan Rice to join Arsenal over Chelsea and Manchester United

Putting out a tweet as quoted by the Metro, Jack Wilshere has urged West Ham United star Declan Rice to move to Arsenal over Manchester United or Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The English midfielder has been exceptional in the holding role, capable of playing in both a single or double pivot. Along with Tomas Soucek, the duo have established a solid partnership at the base of David Moyes’ midfield for the past couple of seasons.

Rice has a contract with the Hammers until 2024 and is yet to pen a new deal with the club. Moyes recently admitted that the English international is not for sale. He went on to add that any club wanting the 23-year-old will have to shell out a minimum of £150m in transfer fee.

Jack Wilshere wants Declan Rice to join Arsenal

There is no doubting Rice’s potential and he is rightfully regarded as one of the best midfield talents in English football today. Tweeting about the midfielder, Jack Wilshere said he hoped Rice would join Arsenal.

“Dec can do everything he can and more. Busquets is the only one 3 or 4 years ago. And remember he played in a team that dominated possession in every game. Dec’s job is harder in this team. He could play in any team in Europe. Fact. Let’s hope it’s Arsenal.”

A Blues target?

There is an emotional connection between the Blues and Rice which may tilt the balance in Chelsea’s favor. While we may have let him leave when he was a kid, he still remains a product of our academy and is close friends with Mason Mount.

Just 23 years old and already having so much pedigree of playing at the highest level, it’s not surprising that there is so much interest in Rice. Many teams would want a quality holding midfielder who can future-proof their squad while also being an established player.

Despite the plethora of options we have in midfield, signing Rice would surely improve the existing quality in our midfield. More so, his age will also give us a long-term solution in the middle of the park

However, we will not be without competition. Wilshere may urge Rice to join Arsenal but other clubs like Manchester United are also in the fray. Chelsea will be hoping that their familiarity and history with the player will tip the scales in their favor.

One thing is clear though. A player of Rice’s quality is not sticking around for too long. We could certainly do with a player of his skill set and at the right price, we should do all in our power to bring the Englishman back home.
