Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger will reveal final decision in coming weeks

According to the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger is set to make a final decision regarding his future prospects in the coming weeks. The defender has been surrounded by uncertainty for quite a while now, but it seems that he is finally ready to reveal his stance.

Rudiger has less than six months left in his current contract with the Blues, which means that he is at risk of leaving Stamford Bridge on a free transfer this summer. As such, he could reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs at this moment should he decide to look for a fresh challenge abroad.

Romano has now revealed that the German will decide on his future in the next few weeks. What’s more, the race to secure his services is still open for now, with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus pressuring to finalise a move. Real Madrid are still in pursuit, and they have also maintained regular contact with the centre-back.

Concerns for Chelsea?

This update would deal a damning blow to the West London side, considering how the sale process has not been finalised so far. That means the club are still unable to engage in contract talks with their players regarding a potential renewal moving forward.

In such a case, if Rudiger is looking to make a final decision, then the risk of a possible departure is higher than ever right now. Moreover, it appears that the central defender has lost his patience as he has been waiting for Thomas Tuchel’s side to solve their ownership uncertainty for quite a while now.

Perhaps, we could use Tuchel to convince the 29-year-old to give us more time to find the prospective new owners. After all, it is the boss who helped to reinvigorate his career at the Bridge, which had fallen off a cliff under Frank Lampard. However, it is stated that the defender has been respectful by being patient, but since there has been no change, he has finally decided to take this route.

With clubs like Real, PSG and Juve vying to get their hands on Rudiger, we could be in line for tough weeks up ahead. The prospect of losing him is a difficult pill to swallow especially looking at our recent defensive struggles without him in the lineup. The 4-2 defeat at the hands of Arsenal is a perfect example of how we missed the centre-back.

With Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta also potentially being in line to leave us after this term, Rudiger’s situation has put us in a dire circumstance. After all, a defensive revamp would be the last thing that the Blues coach would want in the project that he is currently working upon.

The club officials must ramp up the efforts to facilitate a change in ownership at the earliest so that we can at least try to keep hold of our superstars. Whether that will happen, though, remains to be seen.
