Transfer News: Chelsea set to make a £50million bid for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres

According to La Razon (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have finalised the amount of their first bid for the signature of Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

Chelsea’s condition deteriorated after Antonio Rudiger’s departure news broke out. Now, the Blues necessarily need a solid central defender as they eye to replace the German star.

Chelsea were looking for the right time to strike a deal for Pau Torres. However, it seems they are ready to take things forward. The Blues are currently believed to be readying an offer of £50million for the 25-year-old centre-back.

Is it a good deal for Chelsea?

Pau Torres has shown impressive defensive work for Villarreal in recent seasons. Playing 41 matches this season, he has helped his team gain positive results in some big games. The Spaniard also played a significant role in the Yellow Submarine’s journey to the Champions League semi-final.

Torres might not be in the same basket as Antonio Rudiger, but he has shown great potential, and with the right coaching and support, he could get to the top. Considering he is still 25, he can give us more peak year performances than our German star.

Pau Torres has been featuring for Villarreal since 2002. He came out of their academy and featured in youth teams as well. He has grown a strong sense of loyalty towards his boyhood club.

Previously Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool failed in their attempt to sign the 25-year-old as he decided to extend his contract with Villareal. Hopefully we will experience better fortunes in the summer.

Hence, it would be tough for our board to convince Torres to make the switch. As Rudiger is leaving, our board could give him guarantees of a starting XI spot and a better wage deal.  But at the end of the day, his decision would be vital. It remains to be seen where he wants to feature next.
