Chelsea willing to sell £47.6m flop following his desire to depart Stamford Bridge

Timo Werner is open to leaving Chelsea this summer as Blues’ name asking price

According to the German outlet Sport 1 (h/t The Sun), Chelsea have set the transfer fees that it will take to sign Timo Werner after he conveyed his desire to leave them this summer. He has failed to reach the expectations in which he was signed from RB Leipzig back in 2020.

Werner has struggled to get going in terms of goals scored since his move to Stamford Bridge. His overall gameplay is excellent, but his inability to get on the scoresheet seems to have drawn curtains for his time in West London. As such, he wants to leave his club to kickstart his stagnated playing career ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The German already has engaged in talks with his adviser Volker Struth regarding the prospect “to leave London”. The Blues have slapped a price tag on the striker after he revealed his stance. The interested parties will need to part ways with £33million in transfer fees to get their hands on him.

Imminent summer exit?

Earlier this week, the 26-year-old suggested that he feels more comfortable with his national team compared to the English club. Perhaps that was a hint at his future plans if this update is believed to be true. If that is the case, a departure may be for the best of all the parties involved.

We brought in the Premier League forward from Leipzig for a fee of around £47.6million. We seem to be in line to be dealt a loss after taking all the other expenses like wages and agent fees, for example, alongside the current valuation into account. It is unfortunate how his time has panned out in these two years.

There were times when the Blues attacker seemed to have suffered from a stroke of bad luck. However, he has had enough time to get over these setbacks and letting him leave would be a reasonable decision for the club. After all, Kai Havertz has become accustomed to the striker role as he suits Thomas Tuchel’s fluid attacking style of play.

With Romelu Lukaku also in the mix, Werner’s time at the West London side seems to be coming to an end. The latter has garnered 19 goals and assists each to his name from 80 appearances across all competitions. While that return is not terrible, it is not what we expected of him following his prolific run of form in the Bundesliga.

Since we have other options in our ranks, it is understandable if the club would decide to part ways with Werner this summer. That goes in line with his desires as well, but for any move to happen, we need to find a solution to the current transfer ban. So let’s wait and see how the ownership situation will turn out to be in the coming months.
