Timo Werner reveals that he is more comfortable playing for Germany as compared to Chelsea

Speaking after the Germany vs Israel fixture (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea forward Timo Werner implied that he is more comfortable playing for his country as opposed to the Blues. The 26-year-old forward got on the scoresheet as Die Mannschaft recorded a clinical 2-0 victory against Marco Balbul’s men.

Werner has largely struggled to navigate his career in West London ever since making the switch from RB Leipzig. The German international was tipped for great things after showcasing some incredible performances with the Bundesliga club, but has lacked that same kind of prowess at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old forward has only managed to net seven goals and bag four assists in 28 matches across all competitions for the Blues this season. His failure to net regularly for the defending UEFA Champions League winners has seen some scathing criticism thrown in his direction.

The decision to sign Romelu Lukaku at the start of this season and Werner not having a fixed place in our starting XI shows what Tuchel and co think of the striker.

The international break would have brought some much-needed respite as he managed to bag a goal for Hainsi Flick’s men. There was more good news for Chelsea supporters as Kai Havertz was another Blues attacker who managed to get on the scoresheet for the German national team on the night.

In conversation after Germany’s victory against Israel (h/t Daily Mail), Werner opened up about the different styles of play in his national side, comparing them to the London-based club. He also highlighted that his current game is more suited to the German squad.

‘I’m a striker and always want to score. Things aren’t going the way I’d like at Chelsea, so it’s all the better that things are going well here under Hansi Flick. I really enjoy playing football, no matter where I’m playing. There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here. Maybe the one at the national team suits me better. Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals. I feel very comfortable here.’

What’s going wrong with Werner?

Curiously, this isn’t the first time one of our strikers has talked about Tuchel’s system not suiting them as compared to another team. Lukaku made similar claims earlier this season, saying that the German’s tactics at Chelsea did not bring out his strengths.

The club forked out a sum of close to £47.6m to secure the services of the former VfB Stuttgart player. There was a lot of buzz surrounding his move to the London-based club but the 26-year-old attacker has largely struggled to justify the price tag attached to him.

Werner now seems like a shadow of himself lacking the kind of clinical edge that he showed with his previous employers in the Bundesliga. The 26-year-old has now played 80 matches across all competitions with the West Londoners and the club faithful could slowly be losing their patience.

We hope that this goal would help boost his confidence and help him clock some more impressive performances with the Blues. As Chelsea head into the business end of the season, the matches will be coming thick and fast. The Blues compete on several fronts and Thomas Tuchel would therefore be looking to rotate his squad suitably.

This could provide the former RB Leipzig player with a lot of opportunities to make his mark before the end of the season. The supporters would be hoping that the Stamford Bridge outfit can get their hands on more silverware before the end of the season and hopefully, Werner can recreate the form that he’s been showing for the German national team with Chelsea.
